Did you know that your brain needs to be as active and strong as the rest of your body? Most people are conditioned, from that time they start growing, to believe that simply having a strong, active body is all that’s required to be “healthy,” but what about the brain? The brain starts functioning right from the time you take your first breath, and it works till you reach the end of your life. That’s a long time, isn’t it?

So don’t you think you should train your mind to hold the whole bundle of your happy and sad, funny and serious, intellectual and spiritual, important and not-so-important kinds of stuff, and memories?? The answer is a resounding, “Yes!” So let’s take a look at key habits for helping you master your brain and improve your memory power – to make it well-built and pro-active so that you keep all of your life stories.

Key Habit No. 1: Love Your Bed

Sleep is key for pampering your brain and make your nervous system strong, thus helping you remember more of your tasks. Stay cozy in your bed for at least 7-8 hours every day, and remember to take your power naps! Experts say that power naps at intervals during the day can improve your memory power and relax the brain cells.

Key Habit No. 2: Practice Meditation and Mental Exercises

Regular meditation of 15 minutes and practicing effective mental exercises stimulates the cells of your brain. It enables you to recall information quickly, solve familiar tasks, and execute habitual jobs with minimum mental effort. However, remember to include physical workouts in your routine, as physical activity goes hand-in-hand with a mental workout.

Key Habit No. 3:  Serve Yourself a Healthy Plate Of Food

Believe me, your brain is as hungry as your tummy is! So a healthy diet at adequate intervals is as good for your brain as it is for your overall health, and eating the right type and right quantity may be more important and helpful than you might think. A plate with fewer sugary items and more grains, fruits, vegetables can be an effective supplement to improve your memory power.

Key Habit No. 4: A Balanced Professional – Personal Life

Too much of anything is worth nothing – this quote is apropos here, as an unbalanced work-life can disrupt your personal life, eventually affecting your mental and physical health. Therefore, practicing a good balance between both can reduce your stress and will give you time for your mind to relax and regain its power. Also, quality time spent with loved ones stimulates happy vibrations in your mind, thereby producing positive energy, which ultimately affects the memory positively.

Key Habit No. 5: Listen to Your Body

Often, there may be an ignored health or lifestyle problem that results in a memory disorder. Paying attention to several issues like heart disease, diabetes, and hormonal imbalance can prevent memory problems in your life. Recent studies have even shown a link between gum disease and Alzheimer’s. Although more research needs to be conducted to determine the exact relationship between the two, it would be wise to keep those gums healthy with proper maintenance. Aging-related memory problems may have an underlying medical condition that could be prevented with proper treatment, so regular physicals and timely treatments are required to prevent those situations.
